Varnum labor and employment attorney Luis Avila has been named to the Board of Trustees for Mary Free Bed.
A partner at Varnum, Avila represents clients in a variety of traditional labor matters and before the National Labor Relations Board and Michigan Employment Relations Commission. He counsels employers on workplace matters and represents clients under the various state and federal statutes that govern the employment relationship.
In addition to his practice, Avila has maintained a strong record of community involvement for many years. Besides Mary Free Bed, he currently serves on the boards of the Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority, the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the Grand Rapids Symphony, where he currently serves as Chair. He formerly served on the boards of the Grand Rapids Art Museum and Wedgwood Christian Services.
Avila has received numerous recognitions for his professional and community achievements. He is recognized by Best Lawyers, Grand Rapids Magazine’s Top Lawyers and Michigan Super Lawyers, and he has been named to Grand Rapids Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 five times. He was named Outstanding Emerging Leader Alum by the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce in 2019.
Avila also serves as chair of Varnum’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.
