Adam J. Brody Elected as Varnum’s Executive Partner

January 7, 2026

Varnum is proud to announce that Adam J. Brody has been elected Executive Partner of the firm. Brody succeeds Scott J. Hill following a successful seven-year term in this role as the firm’s co-Managing Partner. Hill is returning to the full-time practice of law, where he will focus on M&A advisory, succession planning, and supply chain matters. Jon M. Bylsma will continue to serve as the firm’s Chair.

“As my term concludes, I am genuinely pleased to see Adam step into the role of Executive Partner,” said Hill. “His authentic approach and engagement will carry the firm forward, and I am excited to see what lies ahead under his leadership.”

Brody is a partner on the firm’s Litigation and Trial Practice Team and a longtime Varnum attorney who first joined the firm as a mail-room messenger in 1995. He has spent the past 25 years concentrating on complex civil litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts.

“I am honored to step into the Executive Partner role,” Brody said. “Scott’s leadership has left the firm in a strong position, and I am eager to work with Jon and our partnership to build on that momentum.”

In addition to Brody’s extensive first-chair experience across a wide range of commercial disputes, including automotive supply, restrictive covenants, real estate, tax, and post-closing transactional matters, Brody’s practice has expanded to include mobility and data privacy. He advises clients on litigation involving alleged violations of the Video Privacy Protection Act, the Biometric Information Privacy Act, and other state and federal privacy laws, as well as intellectual property and licensing disputes.

“Having built his career at Varnum, Adam understands who we are, what our clients expect, and how the firm delivers value,” said Bylsma. “His insight will ensure the firm continues to deliver results while building on our strong foundation.”

As Executive Partner, Brody will chair the firm’s Executive Committee, which is responsible for policy implementation, lean processes, and attorney development. He has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2024 and previously served as Chair of the Associate Retention and Compensation Committee.
