Varnum LLP advised Schuil Coffee Co. in its acquisition of Leelanau Coffee Roasting Co.
Grand Rapids-based Schuil Coffee Co. roasts and distributes its coffees throughout Michigan and also operates the Sparrows and Joven brands. Owner Tim Volkema plans to retain the Leelanau brand and its employees and run the business as-is for the time being, making only minor updates to packaging and the website while supporting the company’s continued growth.
Varnum advised Schuil on all aspects of the deal, which closed at the end of 2025. The firm’s role encompassed strategic negotiation support, due diligence, and the preparation of the definitive transaction documentation. Partner Pete Roth led the deal team, which included Lauren Parker and Mariah DeHoop, with Michael Stroup and Chelsea Everson advising on real estate and intellectual property matters, respectively.
