Varnum partner Perrin Rynders has been named to the 2023 Class of Leaders in the Law by Michigan Lawyers Weekly. The program recognizes attorneys who have made outstanding contributions to the practice of law, set an example for other lawyers, and show leadership and expertise in diverse areas of law.
Rynders is an accomplished first-chair trial lawyer and leader of the Litigation Practice Team at Varnum. His legal expertise revolves around high-value claims and disputes that often reach multimillion-dollar magnitudes. His extensive experience in the courtroom includes more than 30 jury and bench trials in both federal and state courts across the nation. Additionally, he has skillfully handled contested cases before arbitration panels and administrative tribunals.
Over the past ten years, Rynders has been recognized numerous times for his work in some of the state’s highest profile litigation matters, including complex commercial and environmental litigation. He led the Varnum team that represented more than 200 companies against Michigan’s largest health care claims administrator in ERISA litigation involving hidden fees. He is also part of the team that recently represented more than 500 Rockford area residents in 250+ separate lawsuits against shoemaker Wolverine Worldwide and the multi-national chemical manufacturer 3M.
Rynders is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, recognized as the preeminent organization of trial lawyers in North America, and he was recently accepted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). In 2016, he was profiled by Crain’s Detroit Business in a special report featuring 14 of the leading litigators in Michigan. In 2014, he was named Newsmaker of the Year – Law by the Grand Rapids Business Journal.
He is regularly recognized by attorney rating organizations including Leading Lawyers, Super Lawyers, Top Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America®.
Within the community, Rynders has served on the boards of numerous nonprofit organizations, including Bethany Christian Services, Grand Rapids Christian School Foundation, Jellema House/Pathfinder Resources, Inc., and MOKA, Inc. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Calvin University.
A recognition awards luncheon honoring Rynders and other members of the 2023 Class of Leaders in the Law will be held on December 5 in Troy. Profiles of honorees will be published in a special section of Michigan Lawyers Weekly in the December 18 edition.
