Grand Rapids Law Firms Partner in Support of Retaining Minority Talent

October 15, 2019

Grand Rapids’ three largest law firms are working together to help younger attorneys build networks within the broader community.

In an effort to support and retain young, diverse attorneys in the local legal community, the diversity, equity and inclusion committees of Varnum, Warner and Miller Johnson are hosting a social event for associate attorneys on Thursday, Oct. 17 at the Grand Rapids Art Museum.

Although the focus of the evening is social with no formal program, organizers of the event will be giving away passes and tickets donated by a variety of arts and cultural events, including free tickets to museums, sporting events, local theatre productions and concerts.

“We are committed to helping our associates make connections and build networks inside and outside of our offices,” said Linsey Gleason, co-chair of Varnum’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. “We anticipate this event as a first in a series of many to help foster friendships with peers and to provide introductions to our amazing arts and cultural institutions.”

The initiative was developed as representatives from the three firms recognized the need for young, diverse attorneys to develop deeper ties to the community as part of an overall retention effort. The group intends to host other collaborative events in the future.
