Varnum attorneys Matthew Bower, Hannah Cone, and Mariah DeHoop have recently taken on leadership and professional development roles in the community. Bower joined the Board of Directors at Creative Washtenaw, Cone joined the Board of Directors at Grace’s Table, and DeHoop was selected for The Economic Club of Grand Rapids Fellows Program Cohort.
Bower Joins Creative Washtenaw Board of Directors
Creative Washtenaw supports and advocates for art and creative industries across Washtenaw County, promoting their impact on community vitality and economic growth. Through partnerships and programming, Creative Washtenaw helps artists, cultural organizations, and creative businesses succeed while advancing access to arts and culture for all.
Bower leads Varnum’s Ann Arbor office and is a member of several practice teams, including Business and Corporate, Intellectual Property, Data Privacy and Cybersecurity, and Venture Capital and Emerging Companies. He serves as outside general counsel to emerging and middle market companies, investors, and entrepreneurs, handling corporate formation, M&A, securities, intellectual property, and other transactions. Bower also advises on capital fundraising and securities compliance, with experience across industries such as technology, manufacturing, life sciences, media, and food and beverage.
Cone Joins Grace’s Table Board of Directors
Grace’s Table is a Grand Rapids-based nonprofit that supports teen mothers through community, mentorship, and services. Built on a foundation of hope, love, and encouragement, Grace’s Table offers a safe space for young mothers to grow, connect, and thrive.
Cone is part of the Litigation Practice Team at Varnum and focuses her practice on resolving business disputes for clients across many industries. She represents businesses in complex commercial tort and contract litigation, supply chain disputes, and matters involving unfair competition and restrictive covenants. She also advises on a range of corporate governance issues.
DeHoop Selected for The Economic Club of Grand Rapids Fellows Program Inaugural Cohort
The Economic Club of Grand Rapids’ Fellows Program is a yearlong initiative that selects emerging leaders across West Michigan for a unique cohort experience. The program connects participants with senior business and community leaders, helping them build professional networks, develop leadership skills, and expand their impact in the community.
DeHoop supports Varnum’s Corporate, Estate Planning, and Immigration Practice Teams. Within her corporate practice, she also focuses on International Business and Trade. She is experienced in researching, analyzing, drafting, and editing a wide range of legal documents, including memoranda, briefs, contracts, and corporate records. Before joining the firm, DeHoop researched antitrust legal precedent across international jurisdictions and gained experience in international commercial law through law school exchange programs in Paris, France, and Barcelona, Spain.
