Many of our attorneys are former clerks. We recognize and value the practical experience a clerkship adds to an already strong law school record. With former clerks from U.S. District Courts to the U.S. Courts of Appeals, we find that former judicial clerks play a strong role in all of our practice areas.
We welcome applications from judicial clerks throughout the year. Applications can be emailed to Lindsae Badgerow, director of recruiting.
“As a clerk, my job involved constantly evaluating arguments. In doing so, I learned what good and bad arguments look like. Now, I can use many of my research and writing skills that I also gained, in conjunction with those effective advocacy techniques that I learned, to effectively advocate for my clients.”
Kyle P. Konwinski
Honorable Gordon J. Quist, U.S. District Court, Western District of Michigan, 2011-2012
“In addition to improving my writing skills, my clerkship experience gave me instant credibility with other attorneys, both within the firm and outside the firm.”
Bryan R. Walters
Honorable Gordon J. Quist, U.S. District Court, Western District of Michigan, 1998-1999
“The opportunity to become so intimately involved with the actual behind the scenes operation of the court was of great help when I entered into private practice. Understanding what matters and what does not provided me with experience that allowed me to better advise clients. The need for civility, professionalism and mutual respect among litigants and the bench were values I certainly valued when I arrived, but truly appreciated more after serving such a decent man.”
Stephen P. Afendoulis
Honorable Anthony J. Celebrezze, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, 1982-1984
