On behalf of the firm, Varnum Chair Dave Khorey accepted a commemorative Whitecaps baseball jersey during an on-field ceremony on Saturday, in recognition of the firm’s 25 years of support of the team.
Whitecaps owners Denny Baxter and Lew Chamberlin made the presentation to about a dozen season ticket holders between games of Saturday’s doubleheader against the Burlington Bees.
“It was a thrill and honor to represent the firm for its support of one of West Michigan’s best entertainment options,” Khorey said. “We couldn’t be more proud to have a strong affiliation with West Michigan baseball.”
In addition to other support, Varnum has maintained a suite at Fifth Third Ballpark since the Whitecaps began in 1994. Chamberlin stopped by the suite prior to the ceremony, visiting with Khorey and Varnum attorneys Hilary Snell, Perrin Rynders, Kap Jones, Terry Tobias and Rob Huff and their families.
The West Michigan Whitecaps are a Class A minor league team affiliated with the Detroit Tigers. They are one of the few privately-funded sports teams in the country. Known for family-friendly entertainment between innings and themed games, the team was named Minor League Franchise of the Decade in 1999 by Baseball America.
