Year-End Compliance Items for Retirement Plans

December 7, 2010

As the end of the year approaches, we want to remind plan administrators with calendar year retirement plans that there are compliance items you must address for 2010 to retain your plan’s qualified status. Some of these items are operational, such as plan testing and notice requirements, while others are document issues, such as amendments that must be signed by the end of the year. Now is also the time to get ready for 2011. For example, employers with tax ID numbers ending in 0 or 5 need to restate their plans and submit them to the IRS for updated determination letters in 2011.

Below is a link to a compliance outline prepared by ERISA Diagnostics, Inc. to help identify your compliance responsibilities for 2010 and 2011. Please contact any of the members of the Varnum Employee Benefits Practice Team to review your year end and 2011 requirements.
