Ver Beek Recognized with 16 Over 60 Award

September 9, 2019

Veteran labor and employment attorney Carl Ver Beek has been selected as one of the “16 Over 60” honorees recognized by Senior Neighbors in its annual recognition of “engaged and inspiring leaders 60 years of age or more who are living life to the fullest and serving others in our community.”

This is the second year of the recognition. Honorees will be recognized at a gala set for Wednesday, Nov. 13 at Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. Ver Beek was nominated by Varnum partner Linsey Gleason.

“Carl, more than anyone else I’ve ever known, is committed to truly understanding and selflessly furthering the cause of countless important local, statewide and national endeavors,” Gleason said in her nomination. “Following a distinguished career as an attorney, Carl continues to provide service to others, to lead and to mentor.”

The nomination included a few of the organizations Ver Beek has served over the years, including Bethany Christian Services, Faith Hospice, Health Net of West Michigan, Holland Home, Kent Health Plan Corporation and the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.

Ver Beek has also chaired the State Bar of Michigan Labor and Employment Section, Character and Fitness Committee and the Attorney Grievance Commission, as well as having held national roles with the American Bar Association.

“Carl is committed and dedicated to the missions of the organizations he selflessly serves because he cares and knows it’s the right thing to do,” Gleason said. “He doesn’t simply show up at events, but he participates from a high level down to the details. Not only does Carl tirelessly learn and commit his time in service, he leads and motivates others to do the same. Perhaps most importantly, Carl does this all while supporting – and without judging – the people around him.”

According to the Senior Neighbors website, “We have countless individuals over 60 in Kent County who positively impact our community every day. Whether it be through business excellence, caregiving, or other extraordinary efforts, this population is an important part of the fabric of our community.”
