Varnum Welcomes Seven New Associates

Seven new associates have joined the Varnum law firm and will be practicing in the Grand Rapids and Novi offices. They bring a variety of legal service backgrounds to the firm, including serving as judicial clerks, working at pro bono legal clinics, and serving as summer associates at firms including Varnum.

As new associates, each attorney will be able to take advantage of Varnum’s “free agent” approach, practicing in a variety of legal areas for about two years before deciding on a specific area of legal focus.

Paul A. Albarran is a graduate of the University of Norte Dame Law School and Oakland University. His legal experience includes serving as a judicial extern to the Honorable Mary Beth Kelley on the Michigan Supreme Court and the Honorable Patrick M. Meter on the Michigan Court of Appeals. Albarran will be based in the Grand Rapids office.

Seth B. Arthur is a graduate of Michigan State College of Law and Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana. His legal experience includes serving as a judicial clerk for Kent County 17th Circuit Court, serving the Honorable Patricia Gardner and Judge Patrick Hillary. Arthur will be based in Grand Rapids.

Christopher M. George is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School and Michigan State University. In addition to Varnum, he served as a summer associate at a New York-based law firm and was a law clerk for the City of Boston Law Department. George will be based in the Grand Rapids office.

Janelle G. Haggadone is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School and the University of Michigan. She served as a summer associate at a Nashville-based law firm in addition to Varnum, and at Common Ground Legal Clinic in Bloomfield Hills. She also served as a clinical case manager at Oakland County-based Crossroads for Youth. Haggadone will be based in Grand Rapids.

Yvonne Kupfermann is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame Law School and the University of Michigan. She served as a summer law clerk to the Honorable George J. Quist of Kent County 17th Circuit Court. She also served as a summer intern at a Grand Rapids-based civil litigation firm and as an intern at a Grand Rapids family law firm. Kupfermann will be based in Varnum’s Grand Rapids office.

Justin K. Ooms is a graduate of Indiana University Maurer School of Law and Calvin College. His legal experience includes serving as an extern to the Honorable Sara L. Ellis of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Ooms also served for several years as a legal intern for Transdev North America, Inc. He will be based in Grand Rapids.

Lauren E. Potocsky is a graduate of Wayne State University Law School and Michigan State University, James Madison College. As a student attorney, she worked at the Legal Advocacy for People with Cancer Law Clinic. She has also served as a law clerk for a southeast Michigan-based plaintiff law firm and served as a legislative intern for the Michigan House of Representatives. Potocsky will be based in Varnum’s Novi office.
