Varnum Serves as Legal Counsel for Michigan-Based Adventure Movie

October 10, 2011

Varnum has been selected to serve as legal counsel to the producers of Michigan-based film Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy, being filmed this month.

The family-friendly, action adventure is being shot at 10 West Studios in Manistee, Mich. and will include scenes from Manistee and Ludington.

"We are very pleased to be a part of this film project," said Steve Afendoulis, chair of Varnum's Sports and Entertainment practice. "Varnum has served as counsel for a number of film and entertainment projects, but when I read the script for Mickey Matson and the Copperhead Conspiracy, this project stood in a league of its own. I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to work with people as talented as Director Harold Cronk and Producer Edgar Struble."

The story follows the adventure of Mickey Matson and his newfound friend, Sully. When a mythical device from ancient times is rebuilt by a group of Confederate soldiers who believe the Civil War never ended, Mickey and Sully follow a series of clues to keep the soldiers away from the three mystical objects that power the device. If they fail, it could mean not only the loss of Mickey's family home, but change the course of history. More information including cast and shooting schedule is on the attached Executive Summary.

The movie is expected to open in theaters the Summer of 2012.

Varnum's Sports and Entertainment group serves as legal counsel to athletes, filmmakers, actors, performers, models, artists and musicians. Services provided include copyright and trademark work, film tax credits, local and state regulations, finance, contracts, endorsements and immigration.
