Varnum Estate Planners Recognized in 2019 Chambers High Net Worth Guide

August 6, 2019

Varnum’s Estate Planning Team is once again recognized in the latest edition of Chambers HNW, an in-depth guide about leading lawyers and law firms for wealthy individuals and families.

Varnum's Estate Planning Team is one of the largest in the state, experienced in the most sophisticated tax and planning techniques. The team offers a broad range of services to fit individual needs, from the simplest plans to the most complex.

The 2019 guide was launched in July, with the following description of Varnum:

“Varnum has a well-rated estate planning and administration practice in Michigan. The team handles trusts, estates and tax matters for its clients. Lawyers at the firm also assist clients with private foundations work, philanthropy and trust and estate litigation.”

Chambers and Partners is a London-based research and publishing organization which has been ranking lawyers and law firms for almost 30 years. Guides compiled by Chambers are based on the research of 150 full time editors who conduct in-depth telephone interviews of lawyers and clients.

In addition to the practice team listing, several Varnum attorneys were cited as notable practitioners. Chambers HNW published the following:

  • Dirk Hoffius is an experienced trusts and estates practitioner, and assists clients with estate planning matters. “He is a very respected member of the community,” says one Michigan estate planner. Another says: “He has been a very good lawyer over the years. He is one of those gentleman lawyers who has been around for a long time and is widely respected in the community.”
  • Thomas Kyros has extensive experience advising high net worth clients on estate and tax planning, as well as handling probate administration matters. One local source says: “Tom is a very good lawyer. He has strong knowledge of our estates and gift tax laws.”
  • Marilyn Lankfer advises clients on estate planning and the administration of trusts and probates. “I look to her for tough questions and issues,” says a peer. Lankfer also handles charitable planning.

In addition to lawyers and law firms, the HNW guide features listings and information about many of the top accountancy and tax firms, private banks, wealth management firms and multifamily offices acting for high net worth individuals.
