Varnum Attorney to Address 2011 Tax Increases at National Webinar

October 13, 2010

Varnum tax attorney Paul McKenney presented at the American Bar Association Taxation Section Webinar on October 13, 2010.

The national webinar entitled, "The 2011 Tax Increases Are Coming -- Carpe Diem!" addressed the best approach to 2011 tax planning, as the increases present an opportunity where traditional tax planning may not be the best approach.

The seminar highlighted the changes that will take place on January 1, 2011, including an increase on individual dividend rates by more than 100 percent, and an increase on capital gain and ordinary income rates for higher bracket individual taxpayers. In addition, presenters explored year-end strategies to accelerate income and gains and defer losses.

McKenney's practice focuses on representing business and individual taxpayers in federal tax controversies, both at administrative levels and the tax court and before federal courts. McKenney has also taught as an adjunct professor in the Graduate Tax Program at Walsh College and is currently a committee chair and frequent speaker at the American Bar Association Taxation Committee meetings.
