September 24, 2020

Varnum attorney Steve Cappellino is a 2020 graduate of the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Leadership Detroit program, a 10-month transformational leadership program designed to challenge emerging and existing community leaders from Southeast Michigan to bring about positive change.

As part of Leadership Detroit’s Class XLI, Steve graduated with 70 classmates from across Southeast Michigan, representing a cross-section of the community, including business, organized labor, government, education, media, civic groups, health services, and community organizations. “I wasn’t really sure what to expect when it started, but I quickly realized this experience would not be like any other leadership training I had ever been to,” noted Cappellino of his experience in Class XLI.  “Dan (Piepszowski) and his staff did an extraordinary job building relationships and trust between classmates, teaching us about the key issues and challenges the City of Detroit faces and how we can get involved, all while providing valuable leadership skill training.  I’m very excited to see how we all utilize what we’ve learned to help our city, as well as continuing the great friendships developed through the program.”

“This group of leaders showcases the promise for the future of our city and region. Their diverse talents and dedication to imparting meaningful change in the Detroit community is an inspiration,” said Dan Piepszowski, senior director of community leadership development at the Detroit Regional Chamber. “This year’s Leadership Detroit graduates have embraced a host of challenges and changes to the program amid the turbulence of COVID-19, all the while demonstrating unwavering commitment to their peers and community. I’m certain they’ll continue on to great accomplishments and service.”
