Roberts to Chair Tax Symposium Task Force
Varnum tax attorney Wayne Roberts has been named chair of the West Michigan Tax Symposium Task Force. The task force is the planning arm of the annual tax conference presented by the Michigan Association of CPAs (MICPA). As chair, Roberts will oversee planning of the annual conference for the next two years.
The 2019 symposium is set for November 13 at Grand Valley State University’s L.V. Eberhard Center. The symposium will focus on ramifications of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, including its impact on entity formation decisions and Qualified Opportunity Zone Funds created through the TCJA. The annual conference is offered jointly with Grand Valley State University and the Master of Science in Taxation program.
Roberts is a senior member of Varnum’s tax team with broad tax experience in all aspects of federal and state tax planning, structuring and tax litigation. He has been a recognized state and local tax (SALT) lawyer for more than 20 years. During that time, he has been involved in a majority of the significant legislative, administrative and case law developments that have taken place in Michigan taxation.
Roberts serves on the tax committees of both the Michigan and Grand Rapids Chambers of Commerce. He is an adjunct tax professor at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School and Walsh College. For the past several years, he has served as co-editor of the CCH Wolters Kluwer Guidebook to Michigan Taxes.
