Roberts to Chair National Tax Law Organization; Publishes Sixth Michigan Tax Treatise
Tax attorney Wayne Roberts was elected Chair of the National Association of State Bar Tax Sections at the organization's annual meeting this fall in Washington, DC. He will serve as Chair for two years.
The NASBTS provides a forum for communication and education among tax lawyers from across the country. Members meet regularly to discuss the latest state and local tax (SALT) developments and to share ideas on policy and legislation. Roberts has been active in the organization for many years and most recently served as Vice-Chair.
In addition, Roberts' sixth Michigan tax treatise was recently published. The current book is the 2016 Guidebook to Michigan Taxes, published by CCH Wolters Kluwer. This treatise provides guidance and explanations of a broad spectrum of Michigan taxes, including Michigan income taxes, business taxes, sales and use taxes, property taxes, and several other miscellaneous taxes that apply to individuals and businesses. Roberts has co-authored or co-edited each publication with his writing partner, Professor Marjorie Gell (Western Michigan University Cooley Law School).
Roberts' law practice includes all aspects of federal and state tax planning and tax litigation. He represents both closely-held and Fortune 100 companies in tax disputes with the IRS, the Michigan Department of Treasury, and revenue departments in numerous state and local taxing jurisdictions.
Roberts provided significant work on two legislative initiatives adopted into Michigan law in 2015. He is also the recent recipient of the L. Hart Wright Service Award, given in recognition of his service and contribution to the legal and tax community in Michigan.
