Roberts Joins Varnum Law Tax Group
Varnum is pleased to announce that veteran tax attorney Wayne D. Roberts has joined Varnum's tax planning, compliance and litigation group. He will be based in the firm's Grand Rapids office.
Roberts' practice includes all aspects of federal and state tax planning and tax litigation. He has represented both closely-held and Fortune 100 companies in tax disputes with the IRS, the Michigan Department of Treasury, and revenue departments in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Tennessee, New York, California and numerous other state and local taxing jurisdictions.
Roberts joins Varnum from Dykema Gossett PLLC, where he led the state and local taxation practice group. He also formerly was a shareholder at Raymond & Prokop P.C., one of Michigan's most highly-regarded tax boutique firms. Roberts rejoins many of his colleagues from that firm who are now at Varnum.
Prior to his legal career, Roberts worked as a CPA with international public accounting firms, focusing on federal, state and local, and international tax. He is a registered CPA in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois.
Roberts recently served as chair of the Taxation Section of the State Bar of Michigan and is former chair of the section's State and Local Tax Committee. He holds a Master of Science in Taxation from Grand Valley State University in addition to his undergraduate degree in accountancy, summa cum laude, from Western Michigan University. He received his law degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, where he earned Order of the Coif distinction and was also a Public Service Fellow.
Roberts is a frequent presenter and author on tax matters. Among his more significant publications are the Practical Guide to the Michigan Business Tax (CCH 2010), and the annual Guidebook to Michigan Taxes (CCH 2012-2015).
