Rich Hewlett and Son Discuss Life After Diabetes Diagnosis
After his son Jeff was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age four, Varnum attorney Rich Hewlett and his family began fundraising for JDRF. That fundraising eventually evolved to the Swing to Cure golf event.
This year's event raised $65,000 for JDRF and the University of Michigan Comprehensive Diabetes Center where Jeff gets his care.
It's "just something that has been an added aspect of my life," says Jeff, a UM student who works part time in a renal pathology lab there. In a recent article with the Novi News, Rich Hewlett stated: "We are in a situation where we can hopefully show there are ways to live with it. Jeff's always been a great ambassador."
