Perkins Named to DMBA Board of Directors
Varnum family law attorney Julia A. Perkins has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association. She was sworn in at the June 9 Annual Meeting and Awards Ceremony.
The 30-member Board of Directors meets monthly to provide strategic leadership for the DMBA membership. Perkins was appointed to fill the unexpired term of departing board member Judge Katherine Hansen, whose term expires in 2017. As the oldest bar association in Michigan and one of the three oldest bar associations in the country, the DMBA currently serves 650 members and 2,500 stakeholders.
Perkins works with clients in family law matters including divorce, child custody, child support and parenting time matters. In addition to her practice, she is an adjunct family law professor at Detroit Mercy Law. She serves on the Canton Township Planning Commission and formerly served on the Canton Township Zoning Board of Appeals.
Perkins also serves on the Advisory Committee for Kids-Talk Children's Advocacy Center, helping abused and neglected children. Perkins also serves on the Culinary Challenge Core Committee, an annual charitable event that raises money for Alternatives for Girls, Crossroads for Youth, and WLAM Foundation scholarship fund.
"Raising the Bar 2016" the annual meeting of the Detroit Metropolitan Bar Association, was held Thursday, June 9 at the Detroit Club. About 200 attorneys, judges and other members of the legal community attended. In addition to installing new DMBA Officers and Board of Directors, the Bar will presented the Frank Murphy Award and other DMBA awards.
