Pereira Serves as Panelist on Business Valuation and Spousal Support Issues in Divorce at State Bar Conference
Varnum attorney Jude Pereira will serve as a panelist at the State Bar of Michigan's Mid-Summer Conference of the Family Law Section. The panel topic is "Double Dipping Argument in Divorce Property Settlement and Spousal Support."
The panel will discuss circumstances under which a court may include a spouse's artificially-inflated income from a family business in awarding spousal support but exclude the same income when calculating the value of the business.
Pereira has significant experience with valuation techniques used in divorce settlements, including complex business valuations, forensic accounting and tax planning. He is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Pereira is experienced in all aspects of family law including divorce and post-judgment of divorce matters, child custody and support, parenting time, pre- and post-nuptial agreements, and related matters. He has particular experience with mental health issues as they relate to marital difficulties, custody and parenting time.
Outside of his practice, Pereira volunteers as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), representing abused and neglected children. He also serves on the YWCA's Board of Directors.
