Papke Appointed to State Chair of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys
Melissa Papke, a partner in Varnum's real estate group, has been appointed to represent Michigan and serve as the state chair of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys; Papke was also elected to serve on the Council of the Real Property Law Section (RPLS) of the Michigan Bar Association.
With a membership of roughly 450 lawyers, the American College of Mortgage Attorneys is an association of attorneys from the United States and Canada who are highly skilled and experienced in the preparation of real estate mortgages, lending transactions secured by real estate, and related practices. Papke was elected as a fellow of the College in 2009.
The Real Property Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan provides education and information about current real property issues through meetings, seminars, their website, pro bono service programs, and quarterly publication of a journal, which is overseen by the council.
Papke focuses her practice in real estate law, including leasing, real estate finance, development, land use planning, sales and acquisitions and cottage law. She joined Varnum in 2004 after practicing in New York for four years.
In addition to her practice, Papke is a member of the Family Services Committee for Habitat for Humanity, serves on the Board of Directors for the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and is the co-chair of the RPLS and Environmental and Energy Law Committee for the State Bar of Michigan.
Papke served as co-chair of the 2011 RPLS Winter Conference in Washington, D.C. and is co-chair of the 2012 Winter Conference in Orlando. She earned an undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.
