October 17, 2019

Varnum attorney Eric Nemeth will serve as a member of the faculty at the upcoming National Institute on Criminal Tax Fraud/Tax Controversy in Las Vegas.

The 36th Annual National Institute on Criminal Tax Fraud is the yearly gathering of the criminal defense bar combined with the Ninth Annual National Institute on Tax Controversy. The American Bar Association event brings together high-level government representatives, judges, corporate counsel and private practitioners engaged in all aspects of tax controversy, tax litigation, and criminal tax prosecutions and defense.

Nemeth, who leads Varnum’s Tax Planning, Compliance and Litigation Practice Team,  will serve as a panelist discussing defense of IRS criminal investigations. He regularly represents businesses, individuals and other entities in the defense of IRS, FBI, Homeland Security, state police and other law enforcement agency investigations.

Nemeth has extensive experience in tax law with a focus on all aspects of related civil and criminal law, as well as complex financial investigative and litigation matters. He routinely provides legal advice and counsel to clients regarding the tax implications of assets held outside of the United States.

Prior to entering private practice, Nemeth served as a senior trial lawyer for the IRS Chief Counsel and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney.
