MLW Recognizes Three Varnum Staffers as Legal Heroes

July 27, 2020

Michigan Lawyers Weekly has named Varnum employees Sheryll Catton, Wendy Kyles and Merry Marter to the Unsung Legal Heroes Class of 2020.

The recognition honors non-attorney members of the legal profession “who have consistently gone above and beyond the call of duty, often behind the scenes,” according to Michigan Lawyers Weekly. Each of the three was nominated by attorneys or administrators at the firm.

“We’re proud of all of our staff members and especially pleased that Sheryll, Wendy and Merry have been recognized for their efforts,” said Varnum Executive Partner Scott Hill. “Each of them is very deserving of this special honor, and we celebrate their recognition and commitment to the firm.”

Sheryll Catton serves as office services manager for the firm’s four Southeast Michigan offices. She has been with the firm for seven years. Her nomination acknowledged her recent work opening up two new offices and reorganizing another.

Wendy Kyles is a legal assistant in the firm’s Detroit office. She has been with the firm for four years. Her nomination noted her excellent work with four attorneys, as well as involvement in the firm’s community activities such as Varnum’s support of an elementary school in Detroit.

Merry Marter is Varnum’s Central Services manager and works from the firm’s Grand Rapids office. She has been with the firm for 19 years. In addition to being responsible for a wide variety of office services during normal operations, her nomination noted her particular efforts when the firm moved to a remote work environment due to COVID-19.

Each honoree will be presented with a special commemorative award and will be celebrated in the July 27 edition of Michigan Lawyers Weekly. More information can be found at https://milawyersweekly.com/unsung-legal-heroes-2020/
