Michigan Bar Journal Features Roberts Article Outlining Key Tax Developments of 2015
An article by Varnum tax attorney Wayne Roberts is featured in the May issue of Michigan Bar Journal.
The article, "Four Recent Legislative Developments Address Tax Questions Important to All Attorneys," addressed 2015 developments that affect how taxes are administered and collected occurred in Michigan. The article addressed the following key tax developments:
- Enrolled SB 100, which eliminates the requirement that taxpayers pay all taxes, penalties and interest before having their tax appeal heard by a court.
- Michigan's Officer Liability Reform, which narrows the types of individuals who can be held personally responsible for a corporation's taxes
- P.A. 553 and 554, which requires remote sellers to collect and remit state sales tax and use tax on online purchases made by Michigan residents.
- The Offer in Compromise program, which allows Michigan taxpayers to submit an offer to compromise a tax debt for less than the amount due if it meets certain criteria.
