Meet Varnum Partner Mallory Field

January 29, 2021

Newly-elected partner Mallory Field is a corporate and financial services attorney based in the Novi office. Her practice includes working with startup companies, corporate governance, M&A, private offerings and other commercial transactions.

Q: What attracted you to become a lawyer?

A: In college, my roommate decided to pursue a concentration (minor) in “Law, Justice and Society.” Her coursework looked interesting so I decided to take some of her classes as well. I was hooked and the next thing I knew I was studying for the LSAT.

Q: How did you decide to focus on your practice?

A: I grew up in a family business and knew that I had always had an interest in what made companies successful. I started working with corporate clients early on in my career. I liked the structure involved in corporate law and found that working on mergers for family-owned businesses was very exciting and rewarding.

Q: What does client service mean to you?

A: To me, client service means determining what each specific client needs or wants in order to create a successful relationship. I also think that strong communication and responsiveness is important to providing great client service.

Q: What do you most enjoy about being a Varnum lawyer?

A: One of the best things about being a Varnum lawyer is the other incredibly smart and talented lawyers that I am surrounded with on a daily basis. Additionally, working at Varnum has afforded me the opportunity to work and grow with our sophisticated and successful corporate clients.

Q: What is your proudest career achievement?

A: Making partner! I stated in my initial interview with Varnum that my goal was to become a partner at a big law firm. I am thankful to have achieved that goal.
