McKenney Named 2013 Leader In the Law by Michigan Lawyers Weekly

Varnum attorney Paul L.B. McKenney has been named one of the 2013 "Leaders in the Law" by Michigan Lawyers Weekly as a result of his impressive list of legal achievements, his dedication to the education of others, and commitment to the legal profession. He is among 29 of the state's most distinguished attorneys, prosecutors, judges, and others in public service. A ceremony will be held in Detroit on March 21st to honor all recipients.

Honorees were selected by a panel who considered the individual record of success in the legal profession, passion and activity on behalf of clients, standing in the legal community and community at large; and achievements displaying strength of character and leadership in the Michigan Legal community.

Throughout the 36 years in which Paul McKenney has been practicing tax law, he has accumulated an impressive list of achievements. Most notably, he has given over 30 presentations at The Institute of Continuing Legal Education and is believed to be one of the most – if not the most – active ICLE presenter in the state. McKenney is a Martindale-Hubbell "A-V" Preeminent rated attorney(the highest rating possible), has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 2010, and was named Best Lawyers’ 2012 Detroit Litigation & Controversy - Tax Lawyer of the Year. He has also taught as an adjunct professor at Walsh College in the Graduate Tax Program, and has had numerous speaking engagements at the ABA taxation section meetings. McKenney has authored and co-authored dozens of articles for the Michigan Bar Journal and the Business Law Journal.

McKenney has consistently held leadership positions for the State Bar of Michigan (Taxation Section, past Counsel Member), American Bar Association (taxation section, sales, exchanges and basis committee; international law section, committee chair), Detroit Bar Association (taxation committee, past chair), and Oakland County Bar Association (taxation committee, past chair).
