Manguse Becomes Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent
Grand Rapids, Mich., June 9, 2009 - Mary W. Manguse, a paralegal at Varnum, has been certified by the Internal Revenue Service as an enrolled retirement plan agent, allowing her to practice before the IRS with respect to qualified retirement plans. She is the first professional in Michigan to become certified.
The Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent program qualifies non-lawyers to represent clients with respect to retirement plans, including applications for determination letters, annual filings, and the Voluntary Compliance Program, a program to correct document or operational defects.
Manguse has over 25 years experience in the design of complex retirement plan programs and compliance with the requirements of the IRS, Department of Labor, and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation. She deals with a variety of compliance issues that include plan administration, nondiscrimination testing for coverage and benefits, reports filed with governmental agencies, and plan summaries and other materials that are distributed to plan participants.
Manguse holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Central Connecticut State University and is a member of the Legal Assistant Section of both the State of Michigan Bar Association and the Grand Rapids Bar Association.
