Katie Roskam Named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly Up and Coming Lawyers Class of 2021
Michigan Lawyers Weekly has named Varnum partner Katie Roskam to its 2021 class of Up and Coming Lawyers.
Honorees for the annual recognition are young attorneys who, in their first ten years of practice, have excelled in their profession and among their peers. Roskam and others who made the list will be recognized on Thursday, June 10 in a virtual event.
Roskam is a partner in Varnum's Tax and Employee Benefits practice teams, focusing on business tax, international tax, executive compensation, qualified plans, and international tariff and sanctions issues. Her practice is transaction-oriented and includes matters involving real estate, estate planning, mergers and acquisitions, and health care, among others.
Roskam is also an active participant in Varnum's MiSpringboard program, which provides legal support to entrepreneurs and startups. She serves as a liaison to referral organizations including Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW) and Muskegon Innovation Hub and has worked with numerous startup clients to help launch and grow their businesses.
Within the community, Roskam serves on the Visionnaire Executive Committee of the Grand Rapids Art Museum and as a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. Within the firm, Roskam serves on the Associate Recruiting and Retention Committee and co-leads the summer associate program. She is also a valued member of the firm's Benefits Committee, providing input regarding the operation and administration of the firm’s benefit plans.
Roskam graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and went on to earn an advanced degree in tax from Northwestern University School of Law. She earned her undergraduate degree from Hope College, where she also graduated magna cum laude. She has been recognized in both Tax Law and Employee Benefits Law in the peer-nominated and peer-voted Top Lawyers recognition.
