DeWaard Named Vice Chair of Hillman Advocacy Program

Grand Rapids, Mich., September 29, 2009 – Varnum attorney Ronald G. DeWaard was recently appointed vice chair of the 2010 Hillman Advocacy Program to be held January 20-22, 2010 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

The Hillman Advocacy Program is an annual three-day seminar that has provided high-quality, professional courtroom training to hundreds of trial lawyers in West Michigan for over 25 years. The program is sponsored by the Western District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan.

DeWaard is a partner on Varnum's Litigation and Trial Services Practice Team. With past experience as a federal prosecutor and deputy chief of the Major Crimes Division of the United States Attorney's Office in Miami, DeWaard has tried cases in courts across the United States. He has handled complex commercial, corporate tax, patent, environmental, labor, and general liability cases for defendants and plaintiffs.

In 2008, DeWaard obtained a multimillion dollar jury verdict for a corporate plaintiff in a complex civil case, which was one of the top ten verdicts in Michigan, as compiled by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.
