DeVree Named Chair of Michigan Oil and Gas Association Tax and Economics Committee
Varnum partner Jeff DeVree has been selected to chair the Tax and Economics Committee of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association.
DeVree, who leads the Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation group at Varnum, works with employers, executives and third-party administrators on a wide range of employee benefit, executive compensation, and individual retirement matters. As a member of the Tax group at Varnum, he also helps solve complex tax issues in business and investment transactions, especially those involving pass-through entities and oil and gas activities.
The Michigan Oil And Gas Association (MOGA) represents people involved in the exploration, drilling, production, transportation, processing and storage of crude oil and natural gas in the State of Michigan. The Tax and Economics Committee takes the lead on tax issues affecting the oil and gas industry.
DeVree has worked with oil and gas clients ranging from individual investors and landowners to independent oil and gas producers to interstate gas transmission pipelines on tax planning for lease and sale transactions, lease and pipeline operations, and business reorganizations, as well as tax audits and litigation involving income, sales, use, and severance taxes.
DeVree, who has practiced law for more than 30 years, is recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® for Employee Benefits and Tax Law and was recently named 2018 “Lawyer of the Year” in Tax Law by Best Lawyers. In addition to his practice, DeVree serves on the Tax and Regulatory Affairs Committee and Health and Human Resources Committee of the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.
