Detroit Veterans Bar Association Names Nemeth, Thompson to Officer Positions

April 8, 2019

Varnum partner Eric Nemeth was recently named President of the Detroit Veterans Bar Association. Varnum associate attorney Will Thompson was named Secretary.

Founded in 2013, the DVBA is open to past or present members of the State Bar of Michigan who have served in a branch of the U.S. military. The group meets several times a year for veterans-related community service work and networking events.

“The Veterans Bar Association recognizes the unique camaraderie shared by legal professionals who also have a military background,” said Nemeth, who hopes more veterans in the legal industry will consider joining the group.

Nemeth leads Varnum’s Tax Planning, Compliance and Litigation Practice Team. He has extensive experience in tax law with a focus on all aspects of related civil and criminal law, as well as complex financial investigative and litigation matters. His military experience includes serving as an active Army Reservist for ten years, first as a Brigade Judge Advocate and later Division H.Q. Staff Judge Advocate. He later served with the 9th Legal Support Organization where he advised on a wide range of military law matters.

Thompson is an associate attorney whose practice is primarily focused on complex commercial, tax and insolvency litigation. He also has substantial experience litigating civil and criminal tax issues, specifically cases that arise under the Michigan Tobacco Products Tax Act and marijuana regulations. His military experience includes serving in the United States Marine Corps, 2nd Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He served tours of duty in Iraq (2006) and Afghanistan (2008).

The Detroit Veterans Bar Association welcomes new members. Contact Eric Nemeth or Will Thompson for more information or visit the DVBA Facebook page.
