Avila, Best, Perkins and Sawusch Elected to Varnum Partnership
Varnum is pleased to announce that attorneys Luis Avila, Brendan Best, Julia Perkins and Bonnie Sawusch have been made partners of the firm.
Luis Avila is a labor, employment and immigration attorney based in the Grand Rapids office. He represents employers in traditional labor matters and provides counsel in a variety of workplace matters. Avila is active in several community organizations and is the current Chair of the West Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Brendan Best focuses his practice on business reorganizations and workouts, representing companies, creditors, and other parties in a wide variety of industries and matters. Best is a frequent writer and speaker, is the president-elect of the Detroit chapter of the Turnaround Management Association, and the current Chair of the Debtor and Creditor Rights Section of the Detroit Bar Association. He is based in the firm’s Detroit office.
Julia Perkins works with clients in matters including divorce, child custody, child support and parenting time matters. She has unique experience with international custody cases and valuation and division of high net worth marital assets. Perkins is a member of the Board of Directors of the Detroit Bar Association and an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy.
Bonnie Sawusch represents clients whose lives have been affected by catastrophic injury and death. She is involved in investigating, litigating and resolving a wide variety of personal injury cases. Her legal practice is strongly influenced by her previous 15-year career as critical care nurse in a large, acute care hospital. Sawusch is based in the firm’s Kalamazoo office.
