Varnum attorney Peter Smit has been appointed to the Attorney Discipline Board, the adjudicative arm of the Michigan Supreme Court to supervise and discipline Michigan attorneys.
The nine-member ADB is made up of six lawyers and three non-lawyers appointed by the Michigan Supreme Court. The board appoints hearing panels composed of three volunteer attorneys to conduct trial level proceedings in certain matters, including cases in which the Attorney Grievance Commission has filed a complaint of professional misconduct against a member of the Bar. The ADB functions as an appellate tribunal after a matter has been adjudicated by a hearing panel.
Smit is a litigator and partner on Varnum’s Personal Injury Practice Team. He has significant experience in personal injury, wrongful death, auto and trucking litigation, as well as business litigation defense. Since 2013, Smit has been recognized in Best Lawyers in America® for numerous areas of litigation and was recently included in Grand Rapids Magazine’s inaugural list of Top Lawyers in West Michigan.
