Varnum litigation and trial attorney Chloe Cunningham was recently elected to the Board of Directors for the Legal Assistance Center, a nonprofit legal self-help center that helps individuals solve basic legal problems and use the courts on their own.
The LAC serves people involved in civil matters such as divorce, custody, child support, parenting time, landlord/tenant matters, small claims and debt collection. Staffed by 3-5 full time employees and student volunteers in pre-law or paralegal programs at local universities, the Center provides basic legal information, forms, resources and guidance. The LAC consistently has over 20,000 requests for help each year, an average of 100 people each day the LAC is open. Varnum has been involved with the LAC since its inception in 2002, providing financial support and leadership.
Cunningham is a member of Varnum’s Litigation and ADR Practice Team. She represents clients throughout the litigation process, including at hearings, depositions, trial and appellate proceedings. She is experienced in actions that real estate, span contracts and complex commercial litigation and has particular experience advising clients about the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) and other healthcare related matters. Her practice also includes defense of law enforcement personnel, civil rights litigation, constitutional litigation, death in custody and use of force litigation and condition of confinement litigation in trial and appellate courts.
Cunningham is a magna cum laude graduate of Loyola University Chicago School of Law where she earned a Certificate of Health Law. She received her undergraduate degree in economics from Arizona State University Barrett Honors College, where she graduated summa cum laude and also earned an International Business Certificate.
