Allen Appointed to ABA TIPS Ethics Committee

Varnum Family Law attorney John Allen was recently appointed to the Ethics and Professionalism Standing Committee of the Tort Trial and Insurances Practice Section of the American Bar Association for the 2020-21 bar year. Allen, a frequent writer and presenter on ethics matters, has served the committee at various times throughout his career. This leadership appointment is a clear recognition of Allen’s competence and experience, commitment to TIPS, and reputation among the 11,000 TIPS members.

The committee’s primary duty is to promote consideration and understanding of issues related to the maintenance of the professional independence and standards of American lawyers. The committee meets several times a year to participate in and plan activities that enhance professional development, ethics, diversity and public service.

Allen focuses his practice on business and commercial litigation. He is certified as a civil trial advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. In addition, Allen is a certified arbitrator and mediator. He has written and co-written dozens of articles and books, and he speaks frequently to business and law groups. On a regular basis, he teaches courses in law and trial practice to other lawyers, and he often serves as an expert witness.
