MiSpringboard Helps Detroit Brewery Expansion
Varnum's free legal services program for startups, MiSpringboard, helped Detroit-based Batch Brewing Company free up capital to reinvest in their business.
Batch Brewing founder and co-owner Stephen Roginson started his company after being a home brewer for many years, and, like many small business, he faced the challenge of accomplishing multiple business goals on a finite budget. Roginson wanted to establish an employee incentive program, but he was also in the process of opening a second tap room. With limited capital, it was difficult to choose between the two.Luckily, he didn’t have to compromise. Through the MiSpringboard program, Varnum attorney Matt Bower worked with Roginson to design the employee plan, freeing up capital for the expansion project.
“You need to invest money as a small business, and to not have to invest that into a legal program but still accomplish those goals is… we’re just so fortunate,” Roginson said. “The fact that MiSpringboard and Varnum are working to help small business continue to invest in their businesses, as opposed to investing in a subcontractor they don’t see a return on, is lucky. We’re really lucky.”
