A manufacturing client received an Administrative Complaint from the U.S. EPA which alleged that the client had discharged wastewater in violation of its NPDES permit. The Administrative Complaint sought a penalty in the amount of $125,000. By obtaining credit for improvements to the system that the company had implemented, Varnum was able to significantly reduce the amount of the penalty and reach a favorable settlement.
