A major Michigan Association discovered that its Executive Director had obtained an Association credit card without the knowledge of the Association's Board of Directors. Tens of thousands of dollars of the Executive Director's personal expenses were paid by the Association without its knowledge. The Executive Director threatened to fire the Association's accounts payable manager in the event that he disclosed the scheme to the Association's Board of Directors. Varnum helped the Association's Board of Directors to:

• Terminate the Executive Director
• Implement policies and procedures to prevent future occurrences
• Criminally and civilly prosecute the Executive Director
• Explain the matter to the Association's employees and membership

The Association is now a thriving entity with positive cash flow and satisfied employees and members.
