Services for Medical Providers

In addition to traditional legal counsel, Varnum’s legal services for health care practitioners include unique ancillary services to support medical practices and individual physicians. Our team includes attorneys who are well-versed in the issues caregivers face on a daily basis, including a licensed registered nurse who worked in a critical care hospital for 15 years prior to pursuing a career in law.

Presentations and Programming

Our health care legal team provides educational programming and in-service presentations to medical practice groups and other care providers. This programming is offered at no charge to our clients. We have presented to specific or interdisciplinary groups of physicians, nurses, PAs, physical/occupational therapists, case managers, speech/language pathologists, and others in the medical care community. Some of our recent presentations include:

  • Medical malpractice prevention
  • Legal issues surrounding end of life
  • Complying with federal law in the ever-changing telemedicine age
  • Nurses, medical assistants, and their patients – legal implications
  • Getting back to nursing basics
  • Michigan no-fault law – your legal rights
  • Medical assistants and their patients  – legal implications
  • Reducing risks in the perioperative setting
  • Medical treatment of minors – legal issues

In addition to this sampling, we can develop presentations around any health care service legal topic of interest, and we are happy to obtain Continuing Education (CE) credit for any program we provide. Varnum attorneys have provided in-service programming and presentations to the following groups and organizations:

  • American Association of Critical Care Nurse – West Michigan Chapter

Payment Assistance Services

We work with health care service providers on payment issues associated with Michigan’s no-fault insurance.

We understand the importance of proper documentation, preparation and charting of no-fault insurance case claims, and we work with health care providers to recover expenses associated with serious injury in which the no-fault insurer has refused payment, including filing suit against recalcitrant insurers.

We also represent patients who suffer serious auto and non-auto injuries in claims for compensation, including payment of medical expenses.
