Varnum Welcomes Avila to Grand Rapids Office

Luis E. Avila has joined Varnum LLP as an associate in the Grand Rapids office. He focuses on immigration law and also has experience in international law and international trade and finance.
Avila received his law degree from University of Michigan Law School and a business degree from Calvin College. Prior to joining Varnum, Avila worked as an associate with Antone, Casagrande & Adwers, P.C. in Farmington Hills, Michigan.
During his legal studies, Avila worked at the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Switzerland. He has also worked for the Centre for Advice on Individual Rights in Europe, the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan, and the Florence Immigration and Refugee Rights Project in Arizona.
Avila's background includes working for a large international corporate law firm in Mexico City, where he worked on matters pertaining to foreign direct investment in constitutionally protected industries in Mexico.
Avila is on the International Human Rights Committee of the State Bar of Michigan (SBM). Additionally, he's a Member of the Business Law Section of the International Law Section of the SBM and a Member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association through which he was a participant in the 2011 National Day of Action in Washington, DC.
