Varnum to Sponsor Start Garden 5x5 Pitch Competitions
July 19, 2016
As part of its commitment to startups and the entrepreneurial community in Michigan, Varnum is a sponsor of the next series of Start Garden 5x5 Nights. The upcoming series kicks off Thursday, July 21 with a pitch competition at CityVu in Holland.
Start Garden's 5x5 Nights are pitch competitions in which five entrepreneurs are given five minutes to pitch their business idea in front of five judges. The winner receives a $5,000 grant to get their idea started.
"We've been working with the entrepreneurial community through our MiSpringboard program for more than five years, and it makes great sense for us to be involved in this highly-regarded pitch competition in West Michigan," said Varnum Chairman Dave Khorey. "We commend Start Garden for broadening its reach with this next series of competitions by holding them in outlying areas and with a specific focus on reaching diverse populations."
In addition to sponsoring the event, Varnum will provide $5,000 in legal services to the winning recipient of the July 21 competition. Varnum attorneys will also serve on the panel of judges for the 5x5 events.
The complete schedule for the next series of pitches includes:
- July 21 – Holland at CityVu, Varnum judge: Eric Post
- Aug. 24 – Grand Rapids at LINC
- Sept. 27 – Muskegon at Innovation Hub
- Oct. 25 – Grand Rapids at GVSU
