Varnum intellectual property attorney Erin Klug has been named one of Michigan’s “Up and Coming Lawyers” by Michigan Lawyers Weekly.

“Up & Coming Lawyers” are attorneys in their first ten years of practice “who are establishing a name for themselves, who go above and beyond, and who display the ambition drive, determination and accomplishments that set them apart from their peers,” according to Michigan Lawyers Weekly. A total of 30 attorneys from Michigan were recognized this year.

Klug’s practice focuses on patent and trademark procurement to develop both domestic and international intellectual property strategies. She works with a wide range of clients from large companies to solo entrepreneurs. She works directly with inventors to prepare and file patent applications, with company owners to protect their trademarks and with artists to protect their craft through aspects of copyright.

Klug is a 2009 graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She earned her undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan, where she graduated with high distinction. While at Michigan she was awarded first place in Mechanical Engineering Senior Design, serving as the lead on design, construction and analysis of a temperature-controlled steering wheel.

Klug has been active for eight years in the Women’s Bar Association of Oakland County (also known as the Women’s Bar Association – WBA). She has held every board position and currently serves as President. She is also a Director at Large of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. At the 99th annual meeting in May 2017, WLAM honored Erin with the Leadership Award, recognizing her “professionalism, excellence and dedication to furthering the objectives of WLAM.”

In addition to many professional organizations, Klug is a member of the Animal Legal Defense Fund and Attorneys for Animals. She is also a member of ACTiVATE, where she serves as an entrepreneur advisor.

The 2017 “Up and Coming Lawyers” will be honored at a luncheon and awards ceremony set for Dec. 7 at the Detroit Marriott in Troy. A complete list of the 2017 Up & Coming Lawyers can be found on the Michigan Lawyers Weekly website.
