UPDATE: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the FHFA are Exempt from Real Estate Transfer Taxes

Federal Housing Finance Agency, the Sixth Circuit published an opinion clarifying that Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the Federal Housing & Finance Agency ("FHFA") are exempt from all taxation, which includes state and county real estate transfer taxes. This was an important decision because many counties throughout the nation have been suing, or contemplating suing, these entities for similar violations of other states' laws.

No Warrant Exception For Slow Pursuit into Home of a $14.99 Phone Charger Robber
May 13, 2013Two police officers are being sued because they entered Charles Smith's home after he stole a $14.99 phone charger from Walgreens. Perhaps the reason for publishing the opinion, the Sixth Circuit clarified that an exception to the warrant requirement does not exist when the police track down a suspect for a minor crime.
