Wireless Charging Technology Breaks the Metal Barrier
Fulton Innovation, a Grand Rapids-based company is demonstrating new innovations in wireless charging technology. Wireless power allows devices to charge without directly plugging into a power source. Instead, the battery need only be located within a specific area. Now, for the first time, this technology is able to charge through a metal surface – a development that has huge implications for not only cell phones and other personal electronic devices, but also for electric vehicles (EVs). Fulton showcased wireless charging of a Tesla EV at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January. Dave Baarman, director of advanced technologies for Fulton Innovation credits the company’s achievements to a wide range of partnerships, “Our continued development of eCoupled and our work with our many partners is broadening the capabilities of wireless power and proving that there are continuously fewer limits to what we can do with this technology.”
