Energy Moves from MDELEG to MDLRA, MDEC and MDEQ

As the result of two executive orders issued by Governor Snyder, energy departments and energy functions at the state level will soon be relocated. The Department of Energy, Labor and Economic Growth will be reorganized, reduced in size, and put into a new Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs. The position of Chief Energy Officer has been abolished. The Bureau of Energy Systems (energy policy, energy efficiency, alternative energy, green infrastructure and programs, sustainability, recycling) will be transferred to the reconstituted Department of Environmental Quality. The Michigan Economic Development Corp. will take on additional energy functions, including the Energy Office, Next Energy Authority and the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Revolving Loan Fund. The changes will be effective April 24.
