Ohio Governor Vetoes Controversial Water Withdrawal Bill
Ohio governor, John Kasich, vetoed a highly controversial bill that would have allowed much larger unregulated Great Lakes water withdrawals than are permitted in other Great Lakes states.
Conservation and environmental groups, and even some Great Lakes states, had threatened legal action if Ohio’s bill went into effect. The legislature will now have to craft a new bill. They have until December 2013 to implement water withdrawal regulations required under the Great Lakes Water Resources Compact.
